1. Shop & Establishment Act

The Shop and Establishment Act in India is promulgated by the state and may slightly differ from state to state. However, as per the Act, all shops and commercial establishments operating within each state are covered by the respective Shop & Establishments Act. Shops are defined as premises where goods are sold either by retail or wholesale or where services are rendered to customers and includes an office, a store-room, godown, warehouse or workhouse or workplace. Establishments are defined as shop, a commercial establishment, residential hotel, restaurant, eating-house, theatre or other places of public amusement or entertainment.

2. Udyam Registration (MSME)

An Udyam Registration, also known as an MSME Registration, comprises of a government sign-off provided along with a Recognition Certificate and a Unique Number. This is instrumental if you wish to certify that your small or medium business or enterprises is legal and operational.

For micro or smaller business enterprises, the Udyam Registration takes place under the Ministry of MSME, GOI.

3. Food License (FSSAI)

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India which is an organization that monitors and governs the food business in India. It is an autonomous body that is established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act) which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. It ensures the food products undergo quality checks thereby curtailing the food adulteration and sale of sub-standard products. It is responsible for the registering and licensing of the Food Business Operators (FBO) in India and it lays down the rules and regulations for running the food business in India.

4. Drug License (Only Delhi)

Drug license is the permission given by the Government to the owner of the pharmacy or a drugstore. The Drugs and the Cosmetics Act, 1940[1] governs the licensing of the drugs in India under which provisions are made to carry out the business of drugs, medicines or cosmetics.

5. Import Export Certificate

An Importer - Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which mandatory for export from India or Import to India. No export or import shall be made by any person without obtaining an IEC unless specifically exempted.

For services exports however, IEC shall be not be necessary except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy.
